eBay UK Shipping Guide
The UK's largest general marketplace. Since April 2025 private sellers must use eBay Simple Delivery for eligible items: eBay prices the postage, the buyer pays it, and you get a QR code or label for Evri, Royal Mail, InPost or DHL.

How shipping works on eBay
Since 15 April 2025 private sellers on eBay UK cannot set their own postage on most listings: eligible items up to £750 (electronics up to £300) must use Simple Delivery. eBay works out a postage price from the dimensions and weight you enter and, since 1 September 2026, from the item's value, and the buyer pays it at checkout. If you offer 'free' postage the same amount is deducted from your proceeds.
After a sale, eBay assigns one of four couriers and gives you the label: Evri (printable label or QR code for ParcelShops and Evri lockers), Royal Mail (label or QR code for the Post Office, Collect+ or a Royal Mail locker, or a home collection), InPost (QR code and six-digit code only, for any InPost locker or InPost Shop) or DHL (home collection only, up to 30 kg). You can exclude couriers in your postage preferences, but doing so raises the buyer's price. Labels are valid for seven days and tracking is uploaded automatically.
The main benefit is protection: as long as you post within your handling time, eBay covers loss or damage from the first carrier scan, and late delivery does not count against your seller metrics. Yodel was removed from Simple Delivery when the brand became InPost in July 2026. Very small, low-value items (under £20, letter-sized and under 100 g, in categories such as trading cards, coins and phone cases) can still be listed with your own postage.
Key Things to Know
- Simple Delivery is mandatory for private sellers on items up to £750 (electronics over £300 are excluded); the buyer pays a postage price set by eBay based on the parcel size and item value
- Couriers inside Simple Delivery: Evri (label or QR), Royal Mail (label or QR), InPost (QR code and 6-digit locker code only) and DHL (home collection only)
- You can exclude couriers you don't want to use in your postage preferences, but this raises the price the buyer sees
- eBay covers you for loss or damage from the first carrier scan as long as you post within your handling time, and tracking is uploaded automatically
- Simple Delivery labels are valid for 7 days; Yodel is no longer offered since the brand became part of InPost in July 2026
- Private sellers pay no selling fees; buyers pay a separate Buyer Protection fee at checkout
