Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common shipping questions from UK resellers selling on Vinted, Depop, eBay and Etsy.

Courier & Marketplace Compatibility
Can I use Evri at an InPost locker?
No. Evri and InPost are separate networks, and since 1 March 2025 InPost lockers no longer accept Evri parcels at all (an earlier partnership allowed it for a while, which is why old forum posts still say you can). An Evri QR code will simply be rejected on the locker screen. Evri parcels go to an Evri ParcelShop (more than 9,000 of them in convenience stores, supermarkets and petrol stations) or to one of Evri's own lockers, which it began installing in 2026. InPost lockers and InPost Shops take InPost parcels only. Check the courier name on the label in your Vinted, eBay or Depop app before you leave, and use that courier's own app to find a drop-off point.
Can I use InPost for Depop orders in the UK?
Not through Depop itself. Depop Shipping, the label service built into the app, is Evri-only in the UK: after a sale you get an Evri QR code by email (or a printable label) and tracking is added to the order automatically. If you specifically want to use an InPost locker, choose the 'Other' shipping option, buy an InPost label directly from inpost.co.uk (from £1.99 for a Small parcel to another locker or shop), drop it off, and paste the InPost tracking number into the Depop order. You cannot edit the tracking number once entered, so copy it carefully. For most Depop sellers Evri is simpler because it needs no extra step.
Can I use InPost with eBay Simple Delivery in the UK?
Yes. InPost has been part of eBay's Simple Delivery programme since November 2025. When a buyer's order is assigned to InPost, eBay gives you a QR code and a six-digit code (there is no printable InPost label) which you scan or type at any InPost locker or InPost Shop. Tracking is uploaded to eBay automatically. The usual InPost limits apply: 15 kg, a maximum of 41 × 38 × 64 cm, and nothing containing batteries, liquids or aerosols. Buyers can also choose to collect from an InPost locker. Postage prices are set by eBay and paid by the buyer; since 1 September 2026 a small parcel up to 1 kg starts at £2.94 for items under £75.
Which couriers are available on Vinted UK?
Vinted UK currently lists seven carriers: InPost, Evri, Royal Mail, DPD, Relay, AnyVan (for large items) and DHL Express, although DPD, Relay and AnyVan only appear in some regions. The buyer picks the carrier at checkout and pays the postage; you cannot change it afterwards, but you can switch individual carriers on or off in Settings → Shipping. InPost and Evri give you a QR code (or a printable label if you prefer), and Royal Mail is now QR-code only: you show it at a Post Office, Collect+ shop or Royal Mail locker and the label is printed for you. You must ship with the Vinted label within five working days or the order is cancelled.
Is Yodel available on Vinted UK?
No. Yodel was never a Vinted carrier, and as of 17 July 2026 Yodel no longer exists as a brand. InPost bought Yodel in April 2025 and has folded its drivers, drop-off shops and the Yodel Direct sending service into InPost and InPost Direct. eBay has also removed Yodel from Simple Delivery. If you used Yodel for heavy parcels, note the new limits: InPost Direct allows 10 kg shop-to-shop and 15 kg for door-to-door collection, so the old 30 kg Yodel ceiling is gone. For Vinted, choose InPost for small parcels and Evri or Royal Mail for larger ones.
Locker Sizes & Fit
What size InPost locker do I need for shoes?
Without the box, most pairs fit a Medium (B) compartment, which is 19 cm deep, 38 cm wide and 64 cm high. With the original shoe box you will usually need a Large (C) compartment (41 cm deep). Knee-high boots and big boxed trainers can exceed even the Large depth, in which case Evri, whose lockers take up to 62 × 57 × 39 cm and whose ParcelShops take 120 cm parcels, is the practical alternative. Every InPost compartment carries the same 15 kg weight limit, so weight is rarely the issue. Stuff the shoes with paper, wrap them and use a mailing bag rather than a box: soft packaging compresses into a smaller, cheaper and more available compartment.
What happens if my parcel is too big for the InPost locker?
If the door will not close, tap 'My parcel doesn't fit' on the locker screen, take the parcel out and do not force it. Your QR code stays valid, so you can try a locker with a Large compartment free (the InPost app shows live availability), repack into a mailing bag to lose some depth, or drop it at an InPost Shop where staff can help. If the packed parcel is genuinely bigger than 41 × 38 × 64 cm or heavier than 15 kg it cannot go through InPost at all; on Vinted contact support to have the courier changed to Evri, and on eBay the buyer's order will have to be sent by another Simple Delivery courier. Nothing is charged for a failed drop-off.
Will a puffer jacket or winter coat fit in an InPost locker?
Often, yes. A lightweight puffer rolled tightly and sealed in a mailing bag with the air squeezed out will usually go into a Medium (19 cm deep) compartment, and a vacuum bag can halve its volume. Heavier down jackets normally need a Large (41 cm deep) compartment. Long wool overcoats, parkas and anything in a rigid box are the ones that fail. If the packed depth is over 41 cm, use Evri instead (ParcelShops accept parcels up to 120 cm long, 15 kg) or Royal Mail's Medium Parcel format (61 × 46 × 46 cm, 20 kg). Measure the packed depth at home; it is the dimension that decides whether the locker door closes.
How do I check if an InPost locker near me has a Large compartment available?
Open the free InPost app, tap the locker on the map, and it shows how many Small, Medium and Large compartments are free right now. Lockers outside supermarkets and on retail parks usually have the most Large slots; town-centre street lockers and small units inside newsagents fill up by early evening and some have no Large compartments at all. If your nearest locker is full, the app suggests alternatives, and your QR code works at any InPost locker in the UK; it is not tied to one location. Lockers are emptied at least once a day, so a full locker in the evening is often clear again by mid-morning.
What is the difference between InPost Small, Medium and Large lockers?
Only the depth. Every compartment is 38 cm wide and 64 cm high; Small (A) is 8 cm deep, Medium (B) is 19 cm deep and Large (C) is 41 cm deep. Some newer lockers also have an Extra Small slot (4 × 23 × 40 cm) for envelopes and cards. All sizes share the network's 15 kg weight limit; InPost reduced this from the 25 kg figure you still see quoted on older sites. Small suits a T-shirt or a slim book, Medium takes folded jeans, jumpers, dresses and shoes without a box, and Large takes coats, boxed shoes and bundles. When you send a marketplace parcel you pick the compartment size on the locker screen, so measure the packed depth before you go.
Labels & QR Codes
Does Vinted need a printed label?
Not any more. Every Vinted UK carrier gives you a QR code in the app and by email: InPost and Evri let you choose between the QR code and a printable label, and Royal Mail is QR-code only. For Royal Mail you show the code at a Post Office, Collect+ shop, Royal Mail locker or customer service point and the label is printed for you; you cannot drop a Vinted Royal Mail parcel in a postbox. DPD and Relay also use QR codes scanned at the shop. So a printer is optional on Vinted; the only time you need one is if you prefer to attach an InPost or Evri label yourself.
Do I need to print a label for Evri?
No. Every way of sending with Evri now offers a QR code: Vinted and eBay generate one in their apps, Depop Shipping emails you one, Etsy labels can be taken to a ParcelShop, and when you book directly on evri.com you can choose 'print in ParcelShop' instead of 'print at home'. Most of Evri's 9,000-plus ParcelShops have a printer at the counter, and Evri lockers print the label at the terminal. A printed label is still accepted everywhere if you have one. The one exception to watch is the letterbox-sized Postable service, where Evri's own pages disagree about in-shop printing, so take a printed label for those.
How do I get an Evri QR code for a Depop order without printing anything?
Use Depop Shipping. When you list the item, choose Depop Shipping and a size tier (Small under 1 kg, Medium under 2 kg or Large under 5 kg; check the current prices in the app). When it sells, Depop emails you an Evri QR code and shows it in the order. Take the parcel to any Evri ParcelShop or Evri locker, have the code scanned, and the label is printed for you; tracking is added to the order automatically and the order is marked as shipped at the first scan. Depop Shipping covers mainland UK only, so for the Scottish Highlands and islands use the 'Other' option and buy a label elsewhere.
Royal Mail on Vinted: do I need to print a label or can I just show my phone?
Just show your phone. Vinted issues Royal Mail labels as a QR code only; there is no PDF to download. Take the parcel to a Post Office, a Collect+ shop, a Royal Mail locker or a customer service point at a delivery office, show or scan the code, and the label is printed and applied there. Do not use an ordinary postbox or a parcel postbox: Vinted's own help page warns that the parcel needs to be scanned in, and an unscanned parcel is not covered. Collect+ counters are usually open later than Post Offices, which makes them the easiest option after work.
Common Problems & Fixes
Why won't my InPost QR code scan at the locker?
Nine times out of ten it is screen brightness: set it to maximum, switch off night mode or a blue-light filter, and hold the phone still 10–15 cm from the scanner under the screen. A cracked screen, a low-resolution screenshot or a notification covering part of the code also cause failures. If it still will not read, every InPost locker lets you type the code instead: eBay gives you a six-digit code alongside the QR, and Vinted's code is shown under the QR in the app. If the scanner itself looks dirty or dead, report the locker in the InPost app and use another one; your code works at any InPost locker or InPost Shop, where staff scan it for you.
My InPost parcel tracking hasn't updated for 3 days. What should I do?
First confirm the drop-off registered: you should have had a confirmation on the locker screen and a push or email from InPost, and Vinted says to allow up to 48 hours for tracking to appear in the app. Weekend drop-offs are collected on the next working day. If there is still nothing after three working days, contact InPost through the app or inpost.co.uk with the tracking number and drop-off time and ask them to trace the parcel, and tell the marketplace so any 'not received' claim is paused. Keep your drop-off confirmation, because it is what makes you eligible for compensation, which for a second-hand item on InPost is capped at £50 (Vinted's own cover goes up to £500).
InPost locker door won't close after I put my parcel in. What do I do?
The parcel is too deep for the compartment that opened. Do not force the door: remove the parcel, tap 'My parcel doesn't fit' on the screen and the drop-off is cancelled without charge. Then either choose a bigger compartment size if one is free (marketplace labels let you pick the size on screen), find a locker with a Large slot in the InPost app, squash the parcel down by swapping a box for a mailing bag, or take it to an InPost Shop. Your QR code remains valid for another attempt. Marketplaces do not penalise a failed drop-off; what matters is that the parcel gets its first scan within the dispatch window (five working days on Vinted, your handling time on eBay).
Item-Specific Shipping
Which courier is best for selling shoes on Vinted or eBay?
For everyday shoes and trainers, InPost: a Medium compartment takes most pairs without the box and a Large takes them boxed, there is nothing to print, and it is normally the cheapest option the buyer is offered. Evri is the fallback for big boxed trainers and knee-high boots that exceed the Large compartment's 41 cm depth. For limited-edition trainers or designer footwear worth more than about £100, use Royal Mail Special Delivery (from £9.85 online for up to 100 g, £750 of cover, signature on delivery) or at least Tracked 48 with its £75 cover; InPost covers second-hand items only up to £50 and does not compensate collectables at all. Photograph the shoes before packing whichever courier you use.
How do I pack jeans for an InPost locker without using a cardboard box?
Fold the jeans in half lengthways, then into thirds so they are roughly A4-sized, and slide them into a polythene mailing bag around 30 × 40 cm. Press the air out before sealing. Packed this way a single pair is typically 5–7 cm thick and fits a Small (8 cm deep) compartment; two pairs or a heavy pair of selvedge denim go into a Medium (19 cm). Skip bubble wrap; denim does not need it and it adds bulk. Write the buyer's name on the bag as a backup in case the printed locker label is damaged, and weigh the parcel if you are buying your own label (InPost prices by compartment size, not weight, but Evri and Royal Mail price by weight).
Prices & Cheapest Options
Which is the cheapest UK courier for sending clothes under 500g in 2026?
If the item is thin enough to count as a Large Letter (35.3 × 25 × 2.5 cm), Royal Mail is cheapest: a 2nd Class Large Letter is £1.55 up to 100 g and £2.40 up to 500 g, or £2.90 for a Tracked 48 Large Letter (up to 1 kg) bought online. For anything thicker, InPost is the cheapest tracked option when you buy direct (£1.99 for a Small compartment to another locker or shop, £2.89 to a home address), followed by Evri at £2.62 to a ParcelShop or £3.04 to the door, and Royal Mail Tracked 48 Small Parcel at £3.75 since 5 October 2026. On Vinted and eBay the buyer pays the postage at the marketplace's own rate, so the cheapest courier for you is whichever is easiest to drop off.
Is InPost cheaper than Evri for Vinted sellers?
On Vinted the buyer pays the postage, so the price difference affects how attractive your listing is rather than your own pocket. Sending direct, InPost is cheaper for anything that fits a locker: £1.99 (Small), £2.59 (Medium) or £3.99 (Large) to another locker or shop, against Evri's £2.62 to a ParcelShop or £3.04 to a home address for a parcel under 1 kg. Evri pulls ahead only when the parcel is too big for an InPost Large compartment (41 × 38 × 64 cm) or heavier than the 15 kg InPost limit; Evri accepts up to 15 kg and 120 cm long. For most folded clothing, InPost wins on price, opening hours and not needing a printer.
How much does Evri cost compared to Royal Mail for eBay sellers in 2026?
Under eBay Simple Delivery the buyer pays a postage price that eBay sets by parcel size and item value (from 1 September 2026 a small parcel up to 1 kg is £2.94 for items under £75 whichever courier is used), so the comparison only matters if you buy your own postage elsewhere. Bought direct, Evri is cheaper above about 1 kg: a 1–2 kg parcel to the door is £3.52 (small) or £4.79 (standard) with Evri against £5.70 for Royal Mail 1st Class or £7.00 for a 2nd Class Medium Parcel since 5 October 2026, and at 2–5 kg Evri's £6.59 beats Royal Mail's £9.00 Medium Parcel rate. Below 1 kg the two are close: Royal Mail Tracked 48 Small Parcel is £3.75 online, Evri to the door is £3.04. Royal Mail's Tracked services include £75 of cover against Evri's £20.
Packaging
Do I need bubble wrap or special packaging for clothes sent via InPost?
No. Fold the garment flat and put it in a polythene mailing bag; that is all InPost requires, and it protects against rain in the locker. Bubble wrap adds depth, which is the one dimension that decides whether the door closes, so keep it for structured items such as blazers or anything with beading. Use the smallest bag that closes without straining, press the air out, and you will usually drop from a Large to a Medium compartment. Remember InPost's 15 kg limit is shared by every compartment size, and the network does not cover second-hand clothing beyond £50, so photograph anything valuable before it goes in the bag.
Prohibited & Restricted Items
Can I send perfume or aftershave via InPost in the UK?
No. InPost's prohibited list bans 'liquids of any kind', and it names perfume, aftershave, gels, creams and vape liquid specifically, whatever the bottle size and even if it is sealed. Evri also refuses perfume and aftershave because they are flammable. Royal Mail is the mainstream option: it accepts perfumes and aftershaves in small quantities as a restricted dangerous good, provided each bottle is under the stated volume limit, wrapped and marked as Royal Mail's guidance requires; check the current dangerous goods page before you book. If you sell fragrance regularly, state 'Royal Mail only' on your listings and price the postage accordingly.
Can I ship a mobile phone or laptop through InPost lockers UK?
No. InPost's prohibited items page says it cannot accept batteries 'loose or inside a device', so phones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches, power banks and vapes are all excluded, which surprises sellers because older guides said built-in batteries were fine. Battery-free electronics such as cables, cameras without batteries and games consoles can be sent but are not compensated if lost. For a phone or laptop, use Royal Mail Special Delivery (up to £750 of cover, more on request, signature on delivery) or Evri with cover added; Royal Mail and Evri both accept devices with the battery installed when properly packed. On eBay, InPost simply will not be offered for listings in those categories.
Tracking, Delivery & Compensation
How long does InPost take to deliver once dropped off at a locker UK?
Locker-to-locker parcels usually arrive within one to two working days: lockers are emptied at least daily, the parcel is sorted overnight and placed in the destination locker, and the recipient gets a code and three days to collect it. Deliveries to a home address (now handled by the former Yodel driver network under the InPost name) aim for about two working days. Parcels dropped after the day's collection, or over the weekend, start their journey on the next working day, and Northern Ireland, the Highlands and islands can take a day longer. Vinted's guidance is to allow up to 48 hours for the first tracking scan to show in the app.
What compensation do I get if InPost loses my parcel in the UK?
Less than most sellers expect. InPost's network maximum is £500, but second-hand goods are covered only up to £50 (based on their pre-owned value) and handmade items up to £50 for materials. Glass, ceramics, collectables and trading cards, electronics without batteries, documents and cash equivalents are 'non-compensatory': you can send them but nothing is paid if they are lost or damaged. To claim you need the drop-off confirmation, the tracking number and proof of value. In practice the marketplace's own protection matters more: Vinted covers integrated-label orders up to £500 and eBay covers Simple Delivery parcels from the first scan. For anything worth over £50 that you are not sending through a marketplace, use Royal Mail Tracked (£75 cover) or Special Delivery (£750).
Why is my Evri tracking not updating after dropping off at a ParcelShop?
Because ParcelShop parcels are usually scanned into the network at the evening collection rather than when you hand them over, so an afternoon drop-off often shows nothing until the next morning. Evri lockers scan the parcel immediately. If 24 hours pass with no update, check you are looking at the right tracking number (it is on the receipt and in the marketplace app); after 48 hours, contact Evri with the tracking number and the receipt details. The receipt is the proof that the parcel was in Evri's hands, and without it Evri can decline a claim, so always ask for one, or photograph the screen confirmation at a locker. Standard Evri cover is £20 unless you added more when booking.
How do I get a refund or compensation from Royal Mail if my Vinted parcel is lost?
Start with Vinted: orders sent with a Vinted label are covered by Vinted's own protection up to £500, and Vinted deals with Royal Mail. If you sent with your own Royal Mail postage (on Depop or eBay outside Simple Delivery, for example) claim from Royal Mail at royalmail.com or a Post Office with your proof of postage, the tracking or barcode number, the recipient's address and evidence of the item's value. Compensation is £20 on 1st and 2nd Class and Signed For, £75 on Tracked 24 and Tracked 48, and £750 on Special Delivery (or £1,000 or £2,500 if you paid for extra cover). Claims must be made within 80 days of posting, and without proof of postage Royal Mail will normally refuse them, which is why a parcel postbox should only be used with a barcoded, prepaid label that the app can confirm.
