How to Ship Depop Orders with Royal Mail

Written by · updated · checked against Royal Mail: sending in the UK and Royal Mail price guide, October 2026 · how we check

Depop Shipping only issues Evri labels, so sending a Depop order with Royal Mail means choosing the 'Other' shipping option and buying the postage yourself. That is often worth doing: a thin item that qualifies as a Large Letter is cheaper by Royal Mail than by any Evri tier, a valuable piece deserves Special Delivery, and Depop Shipping does not cover the Scottish Highlands and islands at all. This guide covers the formats and services, the prices that took effect on 5 October 2026, where to drop off, and the tracking step that Depop sellers most often get wrong.

    The short answer

Choose 'Other' as the shipping method when you list, then buy Royal Mail postage yourself in the Royal Mail app or Click & Drop (cheapest) or at a Post Office counter. Use a tracked service: since 5 October 2026 Tracked 48 is £3.75 online for a Small Parcel and £2.90 for a Large Letter. Drop the parcel off, then add the tracking number to the Depop order when you mark it as shipped. You cannot edit the number afterwards, and untracked postage gives you no protection in a dispute.

When Royal Mail beats Depop Shipping

Depop Shipping charges the buyer a fixed Evri tier (Small under 1 kg, Medium under 2 kg, Large under 5 kg; the last published prices were £2.99, £4.49 and £6.49) and emails you an Evri QR code. It is the simplest route for most clothing. Royal Mail through 'Other' wins in four cases: a thin item under 2.5 cm that qualifies as a Large Letter (£2.90 tracked); a valuable item that needs Special Delivery's £750 of cover; a buyer in the Scottish Highlands or islands, which Depop Shipping excludes; and a parcel over 5 kg, which is above the Large tier.

    Pick the format

Royal Mail prices by format, measured on the packed parcel. A Large Letter is up to 35.3 × 25 × 2.5 cm and 750 g (1 kg on Tracked): a T-shirt in a flat mailer, a scarf, a slim book. A Small Parcel is up to 45 × 35 × 16 cm and 2 kg: jeans, jumpers, shoes without a box. A Medium Parcel is up to 61 × 46 × 46 cm and 20 kg: coats, boxed shoes, bundles. A padded envelope that bulges past 2.5 cm is charged as a Small Parcel, and a box 17 cm deep as a Medium, so measure after packing.

Pick the service, and the October 2026 prices

Buy online in the Royal Mail app or Click & Drop; the counter is dearer. Since 5 October 2026: Tracked 48 Large Letter £2.90, Tracked 48 Small Parcel £3.75, Tracked 24 Small Parcel £4.80, 2nd Class Small Parcel £4.40, 2nd Class Medium Parcel £7.00 up to 2 kg and £9.00 up to 10 kg, Special Delivery by 1pm from £9.85 for 100 g. At the counter a Tracked 48 Small Parcel is £4.70. Tracked 48 is now cheaper than untracked 2nd Class and carries £75 of cover, so there is no case for sending a Depop order untracked.

    Where to drop off

Print the label at 100% on A4, or use the Royal Mail app's QR code and have it printed at a Post Office or Collect+ counter. Tracked and 1st and 2nd Class parcels go to a Post Office, a Collect+ shop or a Royal Mail locker; a prepaid, barcoded parcel up to 44 × 35 × 16 cm and 2 kg can also go in a parcel postbox if you scan the barcode in the app for proof of posting. Special Delivery must be handed over at a Post Office counter. Parcel Collect from your door costs 50p per parcel and adds a working day.

    The tracking step

With 'Other', nothing is marked as shipped until you do it. Open the Depop order, tap 'Mark as shipped', choose Royal Mail and enter the tracking number from Click & Drop, the app or the counter receipt exactly as shown. It cannot be edited once saved, so copy and paste it or check it twice. Depop cancels orders that are not marked as shipped inside its dispatch window, and in an 'item not received' dispute the tracking number is your only evidence.

    Worked example

A silk scarf sold for £14 to a buyer in Inverness. Depop Shipping is not available there, so the listing used 'Other' with £2.90 postage. Packed in a flat mailer the scarf is 1 cm thick and 80 g: a Large Letter. Tracked 48 Large Letter bought in the Royal Mail app at £2.90 online, label printed at the Collect+ counter from the app's QR code, tracking number pasted into the Depop order the same evening. By Evri the cheapest route would have been £2.62 to a ParcelShop, but Evri does not offer the Large Letter format and Depop Shipping was not offered at all.

Sending a Depop order with Royal Mail

    1. 1
List the item with the 'Other' shipping option and a postage price that covers a tracked Royal Mail service
    2. 2
      After the sale, weigh and measure the packed parcel and pick the format: Large Letter (35.3 × 25 × 2.5 cm), Small Parcel (45 × 35 × 16 cm, 2 kg) or Medium Parcel (61 × 46 × 46 cm, 20 kg)
    3. 3
Buy the postage in the Royal Mail app or Click & Drop: Tracked 48 for most items, Tracked 24 for speed, Special Delivery for anything valuable
    4. 4
Print the label at 100% size, or use the app's QR code to have it printed at the Post Office or Collect+ counter
    5. 5
Drop off at a Post Office, a Collect+ shop or a Royal Mail locker; barcoded Tracked parcels up to 44 × 35 × 16 cm can also go in a parcel postbox (scan the barcode in the app for proof of posting)
    6. 6
Open the Depop order, tap 'Mark as shipped', select Royal Mail and enter the tracking number exactly
    7. 7
Keep the proof of posting until the buyer has received the item and left a review

Where Depop sellers come unstuck with Royal Mail

    • Using untracked 1st or 2nd Class for anything you would mind losing; it has no tracking, only £20 of cover, and now costs more than Tracked 48
    • Entering the tracking number wrongly; Depop does not let you change it once saved
    • Posting a Special Delivery parcel in a postbox or locker; it has to be handed over at a Post Office counter
    • Setting listing postage in April and not updating it after the 5 October 2026 price rise
    • Letting a padded envelope bulge past 2.5 cm, so it is charged as a Small Parcel rather than a Large Letter

    Questions sellers ask about this

How much does Royal Mail cost for Depop sellers in 2026?

Buying online (Click & Drop or the Royal Mail app) since 5 October 2026: Tracked 48 Large Letter (up to 1 kg) £2.90; Tracked 48 Small Parcel (up to 2 kg) £3.75; Tracked 24 Small Parcel £4.80; 2nd Class Small Parcel £4.40; 2nd Class Medium Parcel £7.00 up to 2 kg. Post Office counter prices are higher (Tracked 48 Small Parcel £4.70). Royal Mail now changes prices more than once a year, so check royalmail.com before you set your Depop postage.

Can I use Royal Mail Tracked 48 for Depop?

Yes, and it is the best value for most Depop sellers who want tracking without paying for next-day speed: full tracking with a number to share with the buyer, £75 of cover, delivery in two to three working days, and since October 2026 a lower price than untracked 2nd Class. Untracked postage gives you no protection if the buyer opens a 'not received' dispute.

Do I need to add the Royal Mail tracking number to the Depop order?

Yes, and it is the step most often forgotten. After dropping off, find the tracking number in Click & Drop, the Royal Mail app or on the proof-of-posting receipt, open the Depop order, tap 'Mark as shipped', choose Royal Mail and enter the number exactly. It cannot be edited afterwards. Without it the buyer cannot track the order and you cannot prove the item was sent.

What is the cheapest tracked Royal Mail option for Depop?

Tracked 48 Large Letter at £2.90 online for items up to 1 kg that fit 35.3 × 25 × 2.5 cm, with £75 of cover. Socks, scarves, small accessories and very light T-shirts in a flat mailer qualify. For anything thicker, Tracked 48 Small Parcel at £3.75 is next. Buy online; the counter price is £4.70 for the same Small Parcel.

How long does Royal Mail take to deliver a Depop order?

Tracked 48 aims for two to three working days to most UK mainland addresses and Tracked 24 for the next working day; the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland and some island postcodes can take a day or two longer. These are delivery aims rather than guarantees; only Special Delivery is guaranteed. Tell buyers the expected timescale up front to avoid 'where is my order' messages.
