Cheapest Courier for UK Resellers (October 2026 Prices)

Written by · updated · checked against InPost UK: parcel prices and Evri: our prices · how we check

Shipping costs eat into reseller margins fast, but in 2026 the answer to 'which courier is cheapest' depends as much on who pays as on the parcel. On Vinted and eBay the buyer pays a price the marketplace sets; on Depop the buyer pays Depop's Evri tier; on Etsy, Amazon and with the 'Other' option you pay the courier's rate. This comparison uses the couriers' online prices as they stand after Royal Mail's 5 October 2026 change, by format and weight, and then adds the two things a bare price table leaves out: cover and convenience.

    The short answer

Buying your own postage: Royal Mail is cheapest for thin items, with a 2nd Class Large Letter at £1.55 up to 100 g or £2.90 for Tracked 48 up to 1 kg. For anything thicker, InPost is cheapest at £1.99 (Small), £2.59 (Medium) or £3.99 (Large) locker to locker, then Evri at £2.62 to a ParcelShop or £3.04 to the door for under 1 kg, then Royal Mail Tracked 48 at £3.75. Above 2 kg Evri wins (£6.59 for 2 to 5 kg against Royal Mail's £9.00). Above 15 kg only Royal Mail (20 kg) or DHL via eBay (30 kg) can help; Yodel's cheap 30 kg service disappeared when it became InPost in July 2026.

    First, who pays

On Vinted the buyer pays the postage at a price Vinted sets per carrier and size tier, shown at checkout; your cost is nothing. On eBay, Simple Delivery charges the buyer by parcel size and item value (£2.94 for a small parcel up to 1 kg on an item under £75) and the figure is the same whichever courier carries it; if you offer free postage it comes off your proceeds. On Depop, Depop Shipping charges the buyer a fixed Evri tier (last published £2.99, £4.49 and £6.49). Only on Etsy, Amazon, Whatnot's business orders and with the 'Other' option on Depop do you pay a courier's own rate, and those are the sales the table below is for.

Cheapest by format and weight, buying your own postage

Online prices including VAT, verified on 6 October 2026. Thin item under 2.5 cm and 750 g (a T-shirt, a slim book): Royal Mail 2nd Class Large Letter £1.55 up to 100 g, £2.40 up to 500 g, £2.70 up to 750 g, or Tracked 48 Large Letter £2.90 up to 1 kg with £75 of cover; nothing else offers a letter format. Under 1 kg and thicker: InPost Small £1.99 locker to locker (£2.89 to the door), Evri £2.62 to a ParcelShop or £3.04 to the door, Royal Mail Tracked 48 Small Parcel £3.75. 1 to 2 kg: InPost Medium £2.59, Evri £3.52 (small) or £4.79 (standard), Royal Mail Tracked 48 £3.75. 2 to 5 kg: InPost Large £3.99 if it fits 41 × 38 × 64 cm, Evri £6.59, Royal Mail 2nd Class Medium Parcel £9.00. 5 to 10 kg: Evri £6.68, Royal Mail £9.00. 10 to 15 kg: Evri £10.28, Royal Mail £13.70. 15 to 20 kg: Royal Mail £13.70 only.

    • Thin and light: Royal Mail Large Letter (£1.55 untracked, £2.90 tracked)
    • Fits a locker, under 2 kg: InPost (£1.99 to £2.59)
    • Does not fit a locker, under 2 kg: Evri (£2.62 to £3.52) or Royal Mail Tracked 48 (£3.75) for the cover
    • 2 to 15 kg and too big for a Large compartment: Evri (£6.59 to £10.28)
    • 15 to 20 kg: Royal Mail Medium Parcel (£13.70); over 20 kg: DHL via eBay or Parcelforce

    Cover changes the answer

The cheapest price is not the cheapest courier if the item is worth more than the cover. InPost's network maximum is £500 but second-hand items are covered only up to £50 and glass, ceramics and collectables not at all. Evri's standard cover is £20, raised to £999 only when you book directly and pay for it. Royal Mail Tracked 24 and 48 include £75 and Special Delivery £750 (£9.85 for 100 g, £16.05 for 2 kg since October). For a £150 pair of trainers sold outside a marketplace, Special Delivery at £9.85 is the cheap option; InPost at £2.59 is the expensive one if the parcel goes missing.

    Convenience is also a cost

InPost lockers and Evri lockers are open around the clock and need no printer; Royal Mail's Collect+ counters are open later than Post Offices and print QR-code labels. A courier that is 50p cheaper but means a lunchtime queue or a second trip because the parcel did not fit is not cheaper. For marketplace sales where the buyer pays, convenience is the whole decision.

    Worked example

An Etsy seller posts a knitted scarf (280 g, 2 cm thick in a flat mailer), a pair of boots (1.6 kg in a mailing bag, 12 cm deep) and a 3.2 kg box of homeware in one week. Scarf: Royal Mail Tracked 48 Large Letter, £2.90. Boots: InPost Medium at £2.59 if the seller sends direct and the buyer accepts locker delivery, otherwise Evri at £3.52 to the door. Homeware: Evri at £6.59, against Royal Mail's £9.00 Medium Parcel. Total under £13 for three parcels, and the boots would have cost £3.75 with Royal Mail Tracked 48 for £75 of cover instead of InPost's £50.

Finding the cheapest option for a parcel

    1. 1
Work out who pays: Vinted and eBay set the postage and the buyer pays it; Depop Shipping charges the buyer a fixed Evri tier; on Etsy, Amazon and with 'Other' you pay the courier's rate
    2. 2
Weigh and measure the packed parcel: Large Letter (35.3 × 25 × 2.5 cm) is the cheapest Royal Mail format and depth decides the InPost compartment
    3. 3
Compare InPost (from £1.99 locker to locker), Evri (from £2.62 to a ParcelShop, £3.04 to the door) and Royal Mail (from £1.55 Large Letter, £3.75 Tracked 48 Small Parcel) for the format you have
    4. 4
Factor in cover: InPost pays £50 at most for second-hand items, Evri £20, Royal Mail Tracked £75, Special Delivery £750
    5. 5
Factor in convenience: InPost and Evri lockers are 24/7 and need no printer; Royal Mail's Collect+ counters are open later than Post Offices
    6. 6
For items over £100, pay for Royal Mail Special Delivery (from £9.85 online) rather than saving a few pounds and risking the lot

Where the cheapest choice costs more

    • Comparing courier list prices for a Vinted or eBay sale; the marketplace sets the price and the buyer pays it, so pick the most convenient courier
    • Sending untracked 2nd Class to save money; since October it costs more than Tracked 48 and gives no evidence in a dispute
    • Setting Depop or Etsy postage in April and not updating it after the 5 October 2026 price rise
    • Sending a thick padded envelope as a Large Letter; over 2.5 cm it is charged as a Small Parcel
    • Looking for Yodel's old 30 kg rates; the brand closed in July 2026 and InPost's limit is 15 kg

    Questions sellers ask about this

What is the cheapest courier for clothes under 500 g in 2026?

If it fits a Large Letter (under 2.5 cm thick), Royal Mail: £1.55 for 2nd Class up to 100 g, £2.40 up to 500 g, or £2.90 for Tracked 48 with £75 of cover. If it is thicker, InPost at £1.99 for a Small compartment to another locker or shop (£2.89 to a home address) beats Evri's £2.62 to a ParcelShop or £3.04 to the door, and both beat Royal Mail Tracked 48 Small Parcel at £3.75. On Vinted and eBay the buyer pays the marketplace's rate, so the cheapest courier for you is simply the easiest drop-off.

Is InPost cheaper than Royal Mail for Vinted?

On Vinted the buyer pays the postage, so the difference shows up in how attractive your listing looks at checkout rather than in your pocket, and Vinted does not publish a carrier price table. Underneath, InPost's network is cheaper: £1.99 for a Small compartment against £3.75 for Royal Mail Tracked 48 when bought direct. Vinted's InPost option is limited to the 2 kg standard tier, whereas Royal Mail on Vinted goes up to 20 kg in the heavy tier.

Which courier is cheapest for eBay sellers?

For private sellers the courier makes no difference: Simple Delivery charges the buyer by parcel size and item value (£2.94 for a small parcel up to 1 kg on items under £75, £3.38 for 1 to 2 kg, £5.21 for 2 to 10 kg and £7.19 for 10 to 20 kg since 1 September 2026) whether it goes by Evri, Royal Mail or InPost. Restricting your preferences to 'Royal Mail only' raises those prices (from £3.38). Buyers collecting from an InPost locker pay less (from £2.26). If you offer free postage, the same amount comes off your proceeds.

Which courier is cheapest for heavy parcels over 5 kg?

Evri: £6.68 for 5 to 10 kg and £10.28 for 10 to 15 kg to a home address, or £5.87 and £9.01 to a ParcelShop, against Royal Mail's 2nd Class Medium Parcel at £9.00 (2 to 10 kg) and £13.70 (10 to 20 kg) since 5 October 2026. Between 15 and 20 kg Royal Mail is the only one of the main couriers that will take it. Parcels over 20 kg need DHL (through eBay Simple Delivery, up to 30 kg) or Parcelforce.

Does free shipping on Vinted mean the seller pays nothing?

Yes. On Vinted the buyer pays the postage on top of the item price and Vinted's label is issued to you at no cost. There is no selling fee either; Vinted's income comes from the buyer protection fee. Your only costs are packaging and the trip to the locker or shop. The label must be Vinted's, used within five working days; a parcel posted with your own postage is not covered and the order can be cancelled.

Is Yodel still a cheap option?

No, because Yodel no longer exists. InPost bought it in April 2025 and retired the brand on 17 July 2026; Yodel Direct became InPost Direct, with a 10 kg limit shop-to-shop (from £1.66 plus VAT) and 15 kg door-to-door (from £3.19 plus VAT). The old 30 kg service is gone and eBay has removed Yodel from Simple Delivery. For heavy parcels the options are Evri (15 kg), Royal Mail (20 kg) and DHL via eBay (30 kg).
