How to Find an InPost Locker Near You
Written by Omair Sao · updated · checked against InPost UK: locker sizes and InPost UK: print-free sending · how we check
InPost has more than 16,000 lockers across the UK, outside supermarkets, at petrol stations, on retail parks and on high streets, plus around 4,000 InPost Shops. The nearest one is rarely the problem; the nearest one with a free compartment of the right size at the time you can get there is. This guide explains where the lockers are, how to read the availability in the InPost app before you leave, which sites are worth the extra five minutes, and when a shop counter is the better choice.
The short answer
Use the free InPost app (iOS and Android). Its map shows every locker and InPost Shop near you, the access hours, and how many Small, Medium and Large compartments are free at that moment, so you can check before you travel. The locker finder on inpost.co.uk shows the same locations. Supermarket and retail-park lockers have the most Large compartments and are usually accessible around the clock; small street lockers fill up by evening.
Three ways to find a locker
The InPost app is the one to use. Allow it to use your location (or type a postcode), and the map shows each locker and InPost Shop with its address, distance, access hours and a live count of free compartments by size. It also gives directions. The locker finder on inpost.co.uk shows the same sites and is fine on a laptop, but it is the app you will want standing in a car park.
The marketplace apps help too. After a Vinted or eBay sale with an InPost label, the app usually shows a map of nearby drop-off points, and the QR code it generates works at every InPost locker and shop in the UK, not just the one it suggests.
Reading the availability before you go
Every InPost compartment is 38 cm wide and 64 cm high; the sizes differ only in depth, at 8 cm (Small), 19 cm (Medium) and 41 cm (Large). When you tap a locker in the app you see how many of each are free right now. For a marketplace parcel you choose the compartment size on the locker screen when you arrive, so what you are checking is whether the size your packed parcel needs will still be there.
Lockers are emptied at least once a day, usually in the morning, so the pattern repeats: plenty of space before 10am, Large compartments gone first in busy town centres, and a full locker in the evening that is clear again by the next mid-morning. If the app shows one Large compartment left at a locker fifteen minutes away, assume it will not be there when you arrive and pick a site with several.
Which sites have the most Large compartments
Lockers are not all the same model. The units in supermarket car parks and on retail parks are the larger ones with the most Large compartments; small units on pavements and inside newsagents may have only a handful of Large slots or none. InPost's supermarket partners are Tesco (around 1,000 sites), Aldi (600 and rising) and, under a deal announced in September 2026, up to 700 Asda stores, with Sainsbury's and petrol station forecourts adding more.
If your parcel needs a Large compartment (a coat, boxed shoes or a bundle), head for a supermarket locker first. If it only needs a Small or Medium, the street locker round the corner will usually do. Repacking changes the answer: a coat rolled tightly in a mailing bag with the air pressed out often drops from Large to Medium, which is both cheaper when you send direct and far easier to find.
Access hours
Outdoor lockers in car parks, on forecourts and on pavements are normally accessible at any hour. Lockers inside stores and shopping centres are only reachable while the host is open, and a few sites on retail parks are inside gates that are locked overnight. The app shows the access hours for each site, so check them before planning an early-morning or late-night drop-off rather than assuming '24/7' applies.
InPost Shops as the fallback
InPost Shops are staffed counters, around 4,000 of them including the former Yodel stores that joined the network in July 2026. Staff scan your QR code (or type the code) and take the parcel over the counter, printing a temporary label. They are the answer when every nearby locker is full, and for a parcel that fits InPost's 41 × 38 × 64 cm and 15 kg limits but is awkward for the compartment on offer. InPost has been shifting volume from shops to lockers, so check in the app that the shop you remember still takes parcels.
Worked example: a bundle on a Friday evening
Three jumpers sold as a Vinted bundle pack to 44 × 36 × 22 cm in a box, which needs a Large compartment. At 6pm the app shows the street locker by the station with no Large compartments free and the Tesco locker a mile away with six. The Tesco site is in a car park with 24-hour access, so you go there, scan the Vinted QR code, choose Large and close the door. Had you repacked the jumpers in a mailing bag (about 15 cm deep), a Medium at the station locker would have done, and the app showed four of those free.
Finding a locker with space, step by step
- 1Install the InPost app and allow location access, or type a postcode into the locker finder
- 2Pack the parcel first and measure its depth, so you know whether you need a Small, Medium or Large compartment
- 3Tap the nearest lockers on the map and compare the live count of free compartments in that size
- 4Check the access hours: outdoor car-park lockers are usually 24/7, in-store lockers follow the shop's hours
- 5Prefer a supermarket or retail-park locker for a Large compartment; a street locker is fine for Small or Medium
- 6Note a second site as a backup; the QR code works at any InPost locker or shop in the UK
- 7If nothing nearby has space, take the parcel to an InPost Shop, where staff scan the code at the counter
Why sellers end up at a full locker
- Not checking the live availability before travelling; popular lockers fill up by evening
- Assuming every locker has Large compartments; small street units may have only Small and Medium
- Relying on the website at the roadside instead of the app, which is faster and knows where you are
- Going at peak times such as Saturday mornings, when queues at the screen are longest
- Packing in a box when a mailing bag would have dropped the parcel to a smaller, more available compartment
